Darkness charged by light

Hellonite is an Edmonton, Alberta-based two-piece featuring Troy Hrushka on drums and Dominic Lacroix on guitar and vocals. Formed in 2025 following the breakup of their previous band a few years earlier, Hellonite emerged with a sound rooted in moody Darkwave, post-punk, and goth-inspired atmospheres.

Drawing inspiration from artists such as The Cure, The Sisters of Mercy, Joy Division, Nite, and Twin Tribes, Hellonite blends dark, melancholic textures with driving rhythms and haunting vocals, creating music that feels both nostalgic and distinctly their own.

For Troy, Hellonite represents a return to the Edmonton underground scene he was part of in his twenties. During that time, he played in a similarly styled band originally called The Dream Revolution, which later became The Forgotten. Under that name, the band released a studio album as well as a live album recorded at Edmonton’s Sidetrack Cafe.

Dominic brings a much broader musical background to the project, drawing from a wide range of genres and influences. He and Troy have been making music together for approximately 20 years, evolving through different musical chapters before arriving at Hellonite as a two-piece.

The name

The Element

“Say hello to the night, lost in the shadows.”

The name Hellonite began as an homage to that line from The Lost Boys soundtrack. The name developed a mythology of its own. Hellonite is imagined as a fictional element — dark and black by nature, yet capable of transforming under the power of moonlight. As the element absorbs energy from the full moon, its darkness slowly gives way to white.

That transformation — darkness charged by light — sits at the heart of Hellonite’s identity: a band shaped by shadow, atmosphere, memory, and the strange energy found somewhere between night and dawn.

Darkness charged by light.
